Locke Lord Represents Refuel Operating Company in Two Convenience Store Chain Acquisitions

Locke Lord represented Refuel Operating Company, LLC, a South Carolina-based retail and wholesale fuel distribution and convenience store business, in its acquisition of nine locations from two c-store chains in two separate transactions, growing Refuel’s locations to 195 company-operated locations across Texas, Mississippi, Arkansas, South Carolina and North Carolina.

A team led by Lauren Corbeil Clarke, Mark Miller and Shannon Schroeder (all of Houston) represented Refuel in its acquisition of the assets of Premier Stores, Inc., a Greensboro, North Carolina-based convenience store chain operating under the GreatStops brand. The transaction, which closed on August 2, includes six stores in the Greensboro market. Additional assistance was provided by Jerry Higdon, Ed Razim, Jeff McPhaul and Rich Spiker (all of Houston), Michael Bennett (Chicago) and Kevin Twining (Dallas).

The second transaction, led by Jennie Simmons, Mark Miller and Lauren Richter (all of Houston), is representing Refuel in its acquisition of the assets of The Whalen Corp., a Raleigh, North Carolina-based convenience store chain with three stores in the Raleigh-Durham market. The transaction is expected to close at the beginning of the fourth quarter of 2022, subject to customary closing conditions. Additional assistance was provided by Shumaila Dhuka, Jerry Higdon, Sara Longtain, Ed Razim, and Lani Blake (all of Houston) and Kevin Twining (Dallas).
