Well-Respected and Experienced Restructuring Attorney David Kupetz Joins Locke Lord as Partner in Los Angeles

May 3, 2022

(LOS ANGELES) May 3, 2022 David Kupetz has joined Locke Lord’s Bankruptcy, Restructuring and Insolvency Practice Group as a Partner in the Firm’s Los Angeles office. Kupetz brings to Locke Lord decades of experience advising companies on every facet of bankruptcy law and out-of-court restructurings that will strengthen the Firm’s capabilities on the West Coast and across the country.

Kupetz joins Locke Lord from SulmeyerKupetz, where he was a partner. For more than 30 years, he has advised companies in out-of-court restructurings in a variety of industries, including entertainment, real estate, retail and technology. He represents clients on all sides of bankruptcy, crafting reorganization plans on behalf of debtors, representing secured and unsecured creditors and advising buyers looking to purchase assets from bankruptcy estates. He has also facilitated hundreds of assignments for the benefit of creditors and managed municipal debt adjustment negotiations for government entities.

“David is a talented and well-respected restructuring attorney with a diverse national practice,” said Jonathan Young, Co-Chair of Locke Lord’s Bankruptcy, Restructuring and Insolvency Practice Group. “He has had a wide range of first-chair experiences involving a variety of stakeholders and industries. He will be a valuable addition to our team — not only for our California- and West Coast-facing matters but across the entire Firm. We are very pleased to welcome him to Locke Lord.”

“David’s addition comes at a time of significant growth for the Firm on the West Coast, following the recent arrivals of Partners Amin Al-Sarraf and Eric Herzog — marking a total of nine attorneys to join our Los Angeles office since the beginning of the year,” added Locke Lord Los Angeles Office Managing Partner Nina Huerta. “David will be an excellent fit and resource for our private equity and venture capital, debt finance, real estate, hospitality and health care clients throughout California.”

A frequent speaker and author on innovative issues in bankruptcy and related areas of the law, Kupetz is the author of Collier’s Handbook for Creditors’ Committees, for which he has published updated editions for 15 years. He has been widely recognized for his experience, including being named to Southern California Super Lawyers® in the area of bankruptcy since 2005 and listed among The Best Lawyers in America® in bankruptcy and reorganization since 2019.

“Locke Lord has a strong national platform and a well-known and respected Bankruptcy, Restructuring and Insolvency Practice Group,” said Kupetz. “I’m excited to have the opportunity to collaborate with the Firm’s stellar attorneys and expand and elevate my services on behalf of clients.”

Locke Lord's Bankruptcy, Restructuring and Insolvency Practice Group has broad experience in complex bankruptcy cases, out-of-court restructurings, cross-border proceedings and other distress and special situations.
