Houston Locke Lord Team Secures Dismissal of Claims in Gender Discrimination and Retaliation Lawsuit

Locke Lord Partner Mia Lorick (Houston) led a team with support from Aditi Deal and Emma Doineau (both of Houston) that secured the dismissal of all claims in a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Southern ‎District of Texas on behalf of SunRidge Management Group and Grand Fountain Apartments.

Plaintiffs Shayla Anderson and her husband, Robert Edwards, filed suit in federal court alleging violations of the Fair Housing Act as well as retaliation. In June 2023, the Locke Lord team moved for summary judgment of all claims on behalf of SunRidge and Grand Fountain, arguing that there was no evidence to support the allegations of racial or gender discrimination or of retaliation. The court granted the motion for summary judgment on all claims and shortly thereafter, Anderson and Edwards moved to reconsider the court’s decision. On March 19, 2024, after reviewing all evidence, Judge George Hanks granted the defendants’ motion for summary judgment and ordered the dismissal of all claims made by the plaintiffs.
