Locke Lord Litigation Attorneys Protect Identity of Anonymous Blogger on First Amendment Grounds

Locke Lord Partner Daniel Solitro (Los Angeles) secured a decision by the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California preserving the anonymity of a blogger, known as “Aurelius,” on First Amendment grounds. U.S. Magistrate Judge Douglas F. McCormick granted the protective order, related to a class action lawsuit against Banc of California and its former CEO, finding the blogger’s decision to remain anonymous online is protected by the First Amendment, and that protection is enhanced where the identity “appears to have limited (if any) significance in the underlying case.”
