Joshua Jones' practice involves the preparation and prosecution of U.S. and foreign patent applications as well as intellectual property litigation support with an emphasis on mechanical devices and systems. His technical background is in mechanical engineering, with a particular emphasis on fluid dynamics, heat transfer and thermodynamics.

While attending the University of Connecticut School of Law prior to joining the Firm, Joshua interned at Nufern, a Connecticut manufacturer and developer of optic fibers, where he worked with in-house counsel to help prepare and prosecute patent applications related to a new line of products.

Joshua also clerked for the Department of the Navy Office of General Counsel, where he assisted in drafting patent claims at the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory. During his Navy clerkship, he also researched and drafted legal memoranda on issues related to open source software and environmental law issues in the Office of Naval Research.

Prior to law school, Joshua conducted research for the U.S. Forest Service in conjunction with his master’s thesis at Brigham Young University. His thesis provided the Forest Service with a numerical heat transfer model for predicting tree mortality in forest fires and prescribed burns.

Joshua’s representative experience includes:

  • Assisted in procuring patents upon prosecution of patent applications before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
  • Prepared and prosecuted patent applications relating to aerospace technologies, medical devices, MEMS, semiconductor structures and manufacturing, industrial machinery, packaging, business methods and other fields
  • Prepared opinions of patentability, infringement and the like
  • Prepared licensing and royalty agreements
