Matthew Hansen represents clients in a wide range of litigation matters in state and federal courts across many jurisdictions, including adversary proceedings in bankruptcy court. This experience includes class action defense, energy, antitrust, financial services, consumer protection and consumer finance litigation. He is particularly adept at assessing risk, working with clients to identify key objectives and implementing winning strategies to efficiently achieve those objectives. Matthew Hansen represents clients in a wide range of litigation matters in state and federal courts across many jurisdictions, including adversary proceedings in bankruptcy court. This experience includes class action defense, energy, antitrust, financial services, consumer protection and consumer finance litigation. He is particularly adept at assessing risk, working with clients to identify key objectives and implementing winning strategies to efficiently achieve those objectives. A pragmatic problem solver, Matthew also advises clients regarding the potential legal effects of their business practices.

Matthew's experience includes defending oil and gas producers in royalty litigation and other commercial disputes, defending against civil antitrust claims and defending banks, mortgage servicers, student loan servicers and other financial services entities against claims arising under various consumer protection and debt collection statutes. Matthew also has particular experience defending lawsuits arising under the home equity provisions of the Texas Constitution, and assists in both state and federal appeals of his matters.

Matthew also represents his clients in responding to various regulatory complaints and advises clients across various industries regarding business practices and structure to minimize litigation risk and address compliance issues. This experience includes advising clients regarding royalty payment practices and the implications of energy transactions, and drafting the agreements and disclosures comprising certain consumer finance transactions.

Energy Litigation

  • Represent natural gas production company in multiple lawsuits involving royalty disputes, including serving as member of trial team that obtained total defense verdict in jury trial of class action
  • Represented natural gas production company in dispute arising from commercial transaction
  • Advised oil and gas production company concerning royalty payment practices
  • Advised oil and gas production company regarding implications of commercial transactions on lease obligations

Financial Services Litigation

  • Represent financial consulting firm to obtain dismissal of claims by successfully enforcing forum-selection clause
  • Extensive experience representing national banks, mortgage lenders, financial services companies, mortgage servicers and investors in residential mortgage disputes involving alleged FDCPA, TILA, RESPA, FCRA, TDCA, DTPA, and TCPA violations, together with allegations of mortgage fraud, predatory lending, false credit reporting, improper collection, violations of various state and federal statutes, regulations, the home equity provisions of the Texas Constitution, and other lending and servicing errors
  • Extensive experience representing national student loan servicer in various disputes related to student loan servicing, including alleged violations of state consumer protection and debt collection statutes, the FDCPA and the FCRA
  • Extensive experience representing financial institutions and financial services companies in adversary proceedings in bankruptcy court
  • Represented mortgage lender in administrative proceedings brought by state and federal agencies
  • Represented lenders, servicers and an insurance company in disputes arising from hurricane-related property damage

Antitrust Litigation

  • Assist in representing one of the nation’s largest distributors of dental products and supplies in civil antitrust litigation
  • Advised consortium of quick-service and full-service restaurants and foodservice distributors regarding antitrust compliance

Consumer Protection Litigation

  • Assisted in representing international software provider in putative class actions alleging violations of multiple consumer protection statutes and related claims
  • Assisted in representing national company whose subsidiaries specialize in the purchase and recovery of discharged consumer receivables in dispute arising under state and federal consumer protection statutes

Copyright Litigation

  • Represented client in defending against copyright infringement claims
