A Cresting Wave: State cybersecurity requirements for insurers and producers will follow the lead of the NAIC and the N.Y. Department of Financial Services

Ted Augustinos, a member of the steering committee of the Privacy & Cybersecurity Practice Group of Locke Lord and Managing Partner of the Firm’s Hartford office, authored an article on the adoption of the NAIC’s Insurance Data Security Model Law, which established insurance industry standards for information and systems security. A few states, including Rhode Island and South Carolina, recently proposed legislation tracking the model. Other states are to follow, which will contribute to a wave of cybersecurity requirements affecting the insurance industry.
