Texas Lawyer Quotes Locke Lord Partner Jonathan Young on Rise of Bankruptcy Filings and Firm’s Approach to Hiring; Highlights Arrival of Hartford and New York Partner David Lawton

Jonathan Young, Co-Chair of the Firm’s Bankruptcy, Restructuring and Insolvency Practice Group, was quoted by the Texas Lawyer on a government report noting an uptick of bankruptcy filings and Locke Lord’s strategic approach to hiring. The report from the Administrative Office of U.S. Court shows that total bankruptcy filings are up 13 percent compared with the prior year. Young explains that the statistics “make sense in what we are seeing in the market.”

“There definitely is a fair amount of distress out there. There are a fair number of companies trying to fix their balance sheets and some are being resolved in court,” he said.

Young also discussed Locke Lord’s “strong bankruptcy team,” noting the Firm’s strategic approach to hiring: “[We] will take the opportunity to add someone who fits well into [our] practice, such as David Lawton, who joined [us] as a partner in Hartford, Connecticut, earlier this month.”
