Locke Lord's Ann Ryan Robertson Begins Term as President of Chartered Institute of Arbitrators

(HOUSTON) January 5, 2021 – Ann Ryan Robertson, C.Arb, FCIArb, International Partner in Locke Lord’s Houston office, has begun her term as the global President of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb), effective Jan. 1, 2021. Robertson is the first American woman, second American and fourth woman to hold the post in CIArb’s 106-year history.

In this role, Robertson will act as an ambassador for the world’s leading qualifications and professional body for dispute avoidance and dispute management. In 2020, Robertson served as the Deputy President of CIArb, which has 41 branches and a global network of over 16,500 members.

In addition to her role at CIArb, Robertson is a member of the Council of the American Arbitration Association, Chair of the International Centre for Dispute Resolution’s Rules Revision Subcommittee, a member of the Executive Committee of the Advisory Board of the Institute for Transnational Arbitration, a member of the London Court of International Arbitration and a past member of the International Chamber of Commerce Commission on Arbitration. She is also a member of a number of arbitral institution panels and most recently was selected by the U.S. Department of Trade as one of 10 arbitrators appointed by the United States to serve as a dispute resolution panelist pursuant to Chapter 31 of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement. She is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Houston Law Center and for 19 years coached its Willem C. Vis International Arbitration Moot team.
