Ted Augustinos, a member of the steering committee of Locke Lord’s Privacy & Cybersecurity Practice Group and Managing Partner of the Firm’s Hartford office, was quoted in a Bloomberg Law article detailing struggles for small companies that are working to meet a Sept. 4 compliance deadline with the New York Department of Financial Services (NYDFS) set of cybersecurity rules. Augustinos noted that the NYDFS rules require companies (unless subject to a limited exemption) to encrypt public and non-public data when at rest in storage, and when in transit between data centers. He said smaller institutions “are wrestling with the technology because they haven’t been held to the standard in many states.”
