(BOSTON) April 26, 2016 – Sara Schnorr, Of Counsel in Locke Lord’s Boston office, has been appointed by Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker as a member of the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women. Schnorr, one of 5 Governor appointees, is the first transgender woman to serve on this commission. She was sworn in Monday.
As a volunteer member, Schnorr will review and assess the status of women in the state and work to push forward policy changes and legislative actions that will improve opportunities and equality for women. Commissioners are appointed by one of four authorities: the Governor, the Senate President, the Speaker of the House, and the Caucus of Women Legislators.
“I am honored by the trust that the Governor has placed in me by appointing me a Commissioner,” said Schnorr. “I look forward to adding my unique voice, my energy and commitment to the Commission’s important work of advancing full equality and equal rights and opportunities for all women in the Commonwealth.”
Schnorr’s appointment follows Locke Lord’s show of support of transgender equality in Massachusetts earlier this month. The Firm, along with over 40 other businesses, urged state legislature to vote in support of Act Relative to Transgender Anti-Discrimination. Locke Lord's Boston Office Managing Partner joined Attorney General Maura Healey in signing a letter in support of the act. Locke Lord was the only law firm among the 43 signed companies.
