Writing for Law360, Denise Hanna and Jan Newsom Analyze the King v. Burwell Decision

Denise Hanna, Co-Chair of Locke Lord’s Health Care Practice and a Partner in the Firm’s Washington, D.C. office and Jan Newsom, Senior Counsel in Locke Lord’s Dallas office, wrote an article about the ramifications of the Supreme Court decision in King v. Burwell in Law360. In the article, the authors discuss how the Supreme Court’s decision in favor of the Obama administration seems to have, once again, preserved the core underpinnings of the Affordable Care Act. According to the authors, the Supreme Court’s decision fends off a weakening of the individual mandate and complete stifling of the employer mandate in federal exchange states, which would have dealt a serious blow to the ACA’s underpinnings in those states.
