March 10, 2015 – Savoy magazine has named Locke Lord Partners Paulette Brown and Denise E. Hanna as two of the country’s “Most Influential Black Lawyers” in a survey of the “best of the best” Black lawyers who are partners at leading national law firms and corporate counsel from Fortune 1000 corporations.

Brown, who is based in the Firm’s Morristown, N.J., office, is President-Elect of the American Bar Association. Hanna, who works out of the Firm’s Washington, D.C., office, is Chair of Locke Lord’s Health Care Practice Group.

“Paulette and Denise have been scaling new heights with their professional accomplishments and leadership in promoting diversity in the legal profession, and we are very proud of these exceptionally talented lawyers,” said Firm Chair Jerry Clements. “Locke Lord fosters a culture of inclusion and encourages diverse points of view, as we believe that a superior law firm is reflective of the communities in which we live and work.”

Brown, who is Co-Chair of Locke Lord’s Diversity Committee, focuses her practice on all facets of labor and employment and commercial litigation. She has spent much of her career working to help eliminate bias in the legal system. Her legal career spans 35 years, which includes working as in-house counsel at several Fortune 500 companies and serving as a Municipal Court Judge. Brown will be the first woman of color and third African-American to serve as president of the ABA. A member of the American Law Institute, her contributions to excellence in the legal profession and commitment to justice and equality have been widely recognized by numerous organizations throughout the U.S., including being named to the 2014 EBONY Power List and one of "The 50 Most Influential Minority Lawyers in America” by National Law Journal. She has repeatedly been named by US News as one of the “Best Lawyers in America” in the area of Commercial Litigation.

With more than 20 years of experience in health care legal and public policy matters, Hanna advises health insurance companies and managed care organizations on mergers and acquisitions, corporate and entity formation, managed care contracting, joint ventures, commercial contracting and regulatory and compliance matters. She is a frequent speaker and writer on health reform topics. Hanna serves on the Governance Committee of the Hope Street Early Head Start Program sponsored by California Hospital Medical Center and has chaired the National Bar Association’s Health Law Section. Currently, as a member of the American Bar Association’s Health Law Section, she serves as a Vice Chair of the Managed Care & Insurance interest group and of the Programs Executive Committee and was Co-Chair of the 2014 Washington Health Law Summit.
