Ann Ryan Robertson will serve as a panelist at the American Bar Association, International Law Section's Houston Energy Conference on February 27 - March 1, 2024. Ann's panel, "International Energy Disputes After the Invasion of Ukraine: Can It Handle the Flux Capacity?, will take place on February 29 at 2:30pm.
On February 24, 2022, Russia invaded Ukraine in the largest attack on a European country since World War II. The invasion thrust global energy markets, already transitioning due to a drive to decarbonize, into an even deeper state of flux. With supply chains disrupted, long-term energy contracts have needed to be revised, and new infrastructure has needed to be built. Disputes arising from these changes will be the focus of U.S. and foreign litigation and international commercial and investment arbitration for years to come. This panel will look at how the energy sector has been affected by the Ukraine invasion, the disputes that are arising because of those changes, and how U.S. companies can protect their energy investments in this state of flux.
