Hugh Balsam (Chicago) argued an appeal before The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, which affirmed a judgment in favor of Sennco Solutions, Inc., on April 20, 2020. The appeals court affirmed a ruling by the Patent Trial and Appeal Board upholding several of Sennco’s patent claims against an invalidity challenge for obviousness. The patent is directed to a highly successful security device for displaying handheld electronics in a retail setting. The appeal was one of the first argued telephonically in the wake of the Federal Circuit’s cancellation of in-person argument due to the coronavirus pandemic.
