Sharon's session is "The New Political Makeup of Cosmetics: An Analysis of Pending Legislation and How It Will Affect the Cosmetics and Personal Care Industry" on March 7th. For nearly 80 years, cosmetic regulations in the United States have remained mostly unchanged. In response to public outcry, Congress is now considering two bills designed to give FDA further authority to regulate the cosmetics and personal care products industries. There are pros and cons to each of these bills and there is currently little industry consensus on which bill is preferable. Our accomplished speakers will review the most impactful points of these pending legislative measures and how each might affect the industry. Points of discussion include:
- Analysis of the Safe Cosmetics Modernization Act and the Personal Care Products Safety Act
- Assessing the position of major industry trade groups on these bills
