Boys and Girls Club of Dallas
The Boys and Girls Club of Dallas is an organization whose mission is to inspire youth, especially the disadvantaged, to achieve their full potential in a positive, safe and fun environment.
Through board memberships and annual contributions, the Firm supports The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Dallas. A long standing partner at the Firm serves on the board and the Firm contributes annually to several causes that benefit the Club.
Dallas Bar Association
Locke Lord has been committed to the Dallas Bar Association for decades in its efforts for community enrichment, education, and service for its 10,000 members. Firm partners have historically held numerous leadership positions in the Association, including the DBA's immediate Past-President, Brad Weber. His election continues a long tradition of service by Locke Lord lawyers who have held this important and prestigious position, including Morris Harrell, John Estes, Harriet Miers, Frank E. Stevenson, II and Fifth Court of Appeals Justice Elizabeth Lang-Miers.
Dallas Museum of Art
The Dallas Museum of Art, organized in 1903, houses art spanning many time periods and cultures and features the Nasher Sculpture Gallery. Through events and education collaborations with SMU and The University of Texas, the Museum affords our residents and visitors the opportunity to learn about and appreciate art.
The Firm is actively involved with the Dallas Museum of Art as we sponsor the Museum's major annual fundraiser, The Art Ball, held every Spring. Several of our lawyers, including the Museum's General Counsel, are involved with the Museum through the Board of Directors, the Steering Committee of the Museum, and Junior Associates of the Museum which promotes art through educational and social activities. As the Museum is only two blocks from our offices, our staff and lawyers can take advantage of the complimentary passes we receive through our corporate relationship.
Dallas Zoological Society
Founded in 1888, the Dallas Zoo was the first zoo in Texas, and it is still the largest. The Dallas Zoological Society was founded in 1955 to support the Zoo through the raising of private funds to expand the Zoo's collection. The Society continues to raise funds through their annual "Zoo To Do" gala every fall, and is also tasked with organizing and marketing the Zoo's exhibits, training volunteers, managing day-to-day business matters and running visitor services.
The Firm supports the Dallas Zoological Society through corporate membership, event sponsorship and board membership. One of our partners is the current Chairman of the 70 person board.
Hope Medrano Elementary School
Hope Medrano Elementary School is a diverse, multicultural community school committed to provide all students with a premier education.
Through our partnership with the school, our lawyers and staff mentor elementary students weekly, host school-supply drives in the fall, volunteer at the Spring Carnival and host an annual Christmas party for the students in our office.
Human Rights Initiative of North Texas, Inc.
Human Rights Initiative's mission is to "promote international human rights through local service to refugees and immigrants who have suffered human rights abuses." Since its founding in 1999, HRI lawyers have won 88% of asylum cases since 2000 which is more than 2 1/2 times the national average of 32%.
The Firm supports HRI through contributions, board membership and pro bono work. One of our partners is the immediate past-president of HRI.
Salesmanship Club Youth and Family Centers
Salesmanship Club Youth and Family Centers, Inc. seeks to transform the futures of troubled and at-risk children through innovative educational and mental health programs. Currently the organization operates the J. Erik Jonsson Community School, a lab school for inner city children in Oak Cliff, as well as intensive therapeutic services in Oak Cliff and the Bachman Lake area for families with children who have experienced emotional and behavioral problems.
The Firm supports SCYFC through sponsorship of the EDS Byron Nelson Championship, the proceeds from which provide major funding for these services. This annual golf tournament has raised more money for charity than any other stop on the PGA TOUR. More than $94 million has been raised for SCYFC since the tournament's inception. Several of our lawyers are also members of the Salesmanship Club of Dallas, the sponsoring civic-service organization for SCYFC.
Southern Methodist University
Founded in 1911, Southern Methodist University, a private university in Dallas, steadily ranks in the top one third of national universities in the guide America's Best Colleges, published by U.S. News and World Report.
Our lawyers are involved with the university on the undergraduate and graduate level through alumni programs, board memberships, committee memberships and adjunct professorships.
TACA has raised more than $15 million for 75 different arts organizations in Dallas since its founding in 1966. TACA hosts several fundraising events each year, including the annual TACA Neiman Marcus Silver Cup Award Luncheon, which was founded by former Dallas Mayor Annette Strauss to honor one man and one woman who have greatly contributed to the arts through the giving of their time.
The Firm supports TACA through contributions, attendance at events and board and committee memberships.
Thanks-Giving Square Foundation
Thanks-Giving Square is an international resource devoted to gathering and sharing the thanksgivings of the United States and the world. The Thanks-Giving Foundation was established in 1964, and the Chapel of Thanksgiving at Thanks-Giving Square opened in Dallas in 1976.
The Firm supports the Square through donations, board membership and by coordinating the Square's annual black tie fundraiser which recognizes a couple or individual who embodies the spirit of thanksgiving.
United Way of Metropolitan Dallas
United Way of Metropolitan Dallas—a 2009 recipient of Charity Navigator's prestigious 4-star rating—works to improve lives in Dallas, Collin, Rockwall and southern Denton counties. Locally governed and volunteer-led, United Way of Metropolitan Dallas works with community partners to deliver more than 300 education, income and health programs across North Texas.
The Firm hosts an annual Campaign each Fall to raise funds for the United Way. Locke Lord raises the most funds of any Dallas Firm. Many of our lawyers actively volunteer on the board and on committees of the United Way.
