Our national litigation team includes trial lawyers who are routinely called upon to represent the interests of a broad range of organizations, including health plans and insurers, hospitals, health systems, physician groups, academic medical centers, medical device, and pharmaceutical companies. Locke Lord's lawyers are also well-versed in the representation and defense of life sciences industry executives that are named or drawn into litigated matters. Our lawyers are experienced trial lawyers and routinely work with our health care corporate and regulatory lawyers in order to combine knowledge and experience and develop effective and winning strategies in litigation. We have an established record in a range of litigation, including high-profile matters involving cutting edge issues in the life sciences industry. We also defend clients in civil enforcement proceedings involving FDA, DOJ and state Attorneys General and other government authorities.
We also have among our ranks some of the most experienced Hatch-Waxman practitioners in the country and help clients navigate the hurdles brought about by patent infringement litigation resulting from the submission of Abbreviated New Drug Applications (ANDAs) and Section 505 (b)(2) applications/paper NDAs under Hatch-Waxman.
We are intimately familiar with the statutory and frequently changing regulatory guidelines set in place by Hatch-Waxman and the FDA. For example, we advise clients through the process of bringing generic drug products to market. We assist with the filing of ANDAs or 505(b)(2) applications and patent certifications and notice letters, prosecute and defend patent infringement lawsuits, and protect our clients' approval and exclusivity interests before the FDA.
Our trial lawyers have unique experience and a proven record of representing the interests of our clients in major litigation. With respect to our experience in the highly technical area of IP medical device and pharmaceutical litigation, many of our lawyers previously worked as engineers for the industries we serve, such as chemical, petroleum and aerospace companies and chemical and mechanical engineering firms. We have lawyers who were former patent counsel or generals counsel to software makers, universities, and global multinationals; others were examiners for the PTO. Our lawyers have diverse educational backgrounds and degrees in a variety of fields, including biochemistry and molecular genetics, biology, biomedical science, cellular biology, civil and electrical engineering, neurosciences and organic chemistry. Many of our lawyers and professionals have PhD's in their field of study, including biogeochemistry, biological chemistry, inorganic chemistry, materials science and engineering, microbiology and molecular biology. This real world experience enables us to assist with virtually any legal issue surrounding our clients' product development without losing sight of the science behind the product.
