Joel Thomason is a versatile litigator with broad experience representing clients in a variety of disputes relating to contract claims and interpretation, mortgage lending and servicing practices, state and federal fair debt collection practices, insurance coverage, consumer protection and regulatory compliance matters. Licensed in Texas, Missouri and Kansas, Joel regularly represents clients in state and federal court in all three jurisdictions.

Joel Thomason is a versatile litigator with broad experience representing clients in a variety of disputes relating to contract claims and interpretation, mortgage lending and servicing practices, state and federal fair debt collection practices, insurance coverage, consumer protection and regulatory compliance matters. Licensed in Texas, Missouri and Kansas, Joel regularly represents clients in state and federal court in all three jurisdictions.

Joel has litigated and resolved disputes for lenders and mortgage servicing companies arising from claims alleging wrongful foreclosure and violations of the Real Estate Settlement Practices Act (RESPA), Truth In Lending Act (TILA), Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), Deceptive Trade and Practices Act (DTPA) and Texas Debt Collection Act (TDCA).

Joel also has substantial litigation experience in defending financial services clients in cases involving alleged constitutional violations of Article XVI, Sections 50(a)(6) and 50(k) of the Texas Constitution in relation to home-equity loans and reverse mortgages, challenges to the enforceability of security instruments based on an alleged expiration of the statute of limitations and title disputes.

Joel frequently represents insurers in coverage-related disputes and lawsuits alleging breach of a duty to defend.

Joel also advises clients on a variety of regulatory compliance issues, which includes helping companies navigate investigations conducted by Texas state administrative agencies, including the Texas Real Estate Commission and Texas Medical Board, among others.
