Ronald Sum is a Partner in the Hong Kong office of Locke Lord and serves as the Firm’s Head of Arbitration, East Asia. He concentrates his practice in all areas of dispute resolution, specializing in China related matters, cross border disputes, complex commercial disputes, regulatory bodies investigations, transportation, international trade, insurance and reinsurance, product liability and product recall, including arbitration, litigation, mediation and investigations.
Ronald is a fellow member of the Hong Kong Institute of Arbitrators (HKIArb) and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb). He is Chairman of the International Chamber of Commerce Hong Kong (ICC-HK) Arbitration and ADR Sub-Committee. He is a Council Member and on the panel of arbitrators of the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC) and has acted as arbitrator in HKIAC administered arbitration proceedings. He is also on the Panel of Arbitrators of the Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration (SCIA), Shanghai International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (SHIAC), Thailand Arbitration Center (THAC) and many other institutions. He is also a Mediator for the Mainland - Hong Kong Joint Mediation Center. Ronald was recently appointed as an Investor State Mediator under the Mainland and Hong Kong Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement (CEPA). Ronald is on the Hong Kong Government Advisory Committee on the Promotion of Arbitration and the Hong Kong Steering Committee on Mediation.
Ronald has conducted arbitrations in Hong Kong, Singapore, London, the United States and Australia. Ronald is also an accredited mediator of the Law Society of Hong Kong. He is qualified to practice in Hong Kong, England and Wales and Australia.
