Amita Chohan is a litigator and Commercial Chancery barrister. She concentrates her practice in dispute resolution and insolvency.
Amita’s practice is focused on banking and finance litigation, reorganisation, restructuring and insolvency. She is involved in advising insolvency practitioners, companies, company directors and asset-based lenders on disputes, including title, misrepresentation, professional negligence, insolvency and fraud issues. Amita also advises on insolvency procedures, antecedent transactions and directors’ disqualifications.
In 2024, Amita was selected as a Finalist as a ‘Rising Star’ at the Women and Diversity in Law Awards. The awards ceremony is due to take place in March 2024. Amita is a member of various committees both at Locke Lord and in the global field of insolvency. She is a member of the International Association of Restructuring, Insolvency & Bankruptcy Professionals (INSOL), the International Women’s Insolvency & Restructuring Confederation (IWIRC) and the IWIRC London and Europe Networks. Amita is a member of IWIRC Europe’s Steering Committee and the Technical Co-Chair on the Main Organising Committee for the INSOL Channel Islands Seminar which is due to take place in September 2024. At Locke Lord, Amita is a member (as the London office’s representative) of the firm-wide Diversity and Inclusion Committee and the Client Engagement Sub-Committee.

Before joining Locke Lord, Amita practised at Baker & Partners, a leading specialist offshore law firm in Jersey (Channel Islands). Prior to that, Amita spent over 2 years at Kobre & Kim, a top-ranked global disputes and investigations firm.
Her previous experience includes working on matters involving complex domestic and cross-border asset tracing, asset and security recovery (including offshore), bankruptcy and debtor-creditor disputes, international fraud, international judgment and award enforcement, white collar criminal defense, internal investigations, regulatory enforcement matters and related civil litigation work. Amita has previously assisted with disputes arising from distressed or insolvent mutual and private equity funds as well as litigation associated with the affairs of UK and offshore-domiciled companies. Her past experience in asset recovery work includes dealing with local counsel in foreign jurisdictions such as the Cayman Islands, the BVI and the United States.
In addition to her work at Locke Lord, Amita is actively involved in doing pro bono work, including regularly giving legal advice on civil matters to litigants at the Royal Courts of Justice Advice Bureau.
