Matthew Buongiorno

Matt Buongiorno is a litigator in the Dallas office of Locke Lord where he has handled a variety of high-stakes disputes in state and federal court, primarily in Texas and New York. Matt’s practice focuses primarily on class actions and other complex litigation matters with an emphasis on the banking and financial services industries. Matt is experienced in all aspects of the litigation process, including managing discovery, taking and defending depositions, mediation and other early settlement opportunities, motion practice, and arguing hearings. He has been the primary draftsman of motions to dismiss, motions for summary judgment, motions to transfer venue, and other dispositive motions and discovery-related motions in individual actions, putative class actions, and in the multi-district litigation context. Matt also uses his experience as a former high school teacher to clearly and persuasively draft complaints on the plaintiff side of the docket. Additionally, Matt uses his experience as a former debater and former mock trial and moot court competitor to effectively take and defend depositions, argue hearings, and help negotiate settlements.

Matt also has significant policy experience through his service as a Herbert Scoville Jr. Peace Fellow with the Federation of American Scientists, where he researched and published articles on nuclear non-proliferation, small arms trafficking, and U.S. security policy. Prior to becoming a lawyer, he worked as a Teach For America Corps Member at Kealakehe High School on the Big Island of Hawaii where he taught high school mathematics and coached cross country and triathlon.
