A Locke Lord team led by Ashlee Knuckey (Chicago) is representing WellCare Health Plans, Inc., as national insurance and health care regulatory counsel, in the sale of its Missouri and Nebraska Medicaid plans to Anthem, Inc., in connection with its previously announced merger agreement with Centene Corporation. The closing of the transaction with Anthem is subject to state regulatory approvals, other customary closing conditions and closing of the Centene transaction. The Locke Lord team is also representing WellCare as national insurance and health care regulatory counsel in its $17.3 billion merger with Centene, a transaction that will create a premier health care enterprise focused on government-sponsored health care programs and a leader in Medicaid, Medicare and the Health Insurance Marketplace. The combination has received approvals from insurance departments in 19 states and is expected to close by the first half of 2020. Team members on the Centene transaction in addition to those noted above include Jon Biasetti, Dave Kendall, Ben Sykes (all of Chicago), Tammy Woffenden and Ashley Wheelock (all of Austin) and Denise Hanna (Washington, D.C.).
