    EU 'Monopoly' Case Could Be Game Changer For TM Owners

    Paul Sweeden, a member of Locke Lord’s Intellectual Property Practice Group in London, authored an article discussing the impact of the Board of Appeal of the European Union Intellectual Property Office’s recent decision holding Hasbro Inc.’s trademark registration for the board game Monopoly partially invalid.

    If the decision is not appealed, it could have significant implications for businesses’ brand protection strategies because it “obliterate[es] the long-standing presumption of good faith in such matters,” Sweeden explains.
