Adding Value as a Litigation Paralegal: Best Practices

FACTS & FINDINGS, the quarterly journal of NALA
November 2019

Dallas Partner Art Anthony authored an article for Facts & Findings, the quarterly journal of the National Association of Legal Assistants, Inc., outlining best practices for a litigation paralegal. Anthony notes that while the utilization of technology has increased, “paralegals add value, in short, primarily through inquisitiveness, foresight, and the exercise of good judgment – skills that technology cannot replace.”

Anthony also outlines areas where paralegals play a vital role, concerns and risks associated with these areas and skills needed to succeed. “Paralegals cannot merely play subordinate roles on legal teams in highly complex cases; instead litigation paralegals form an essential part of a comprehensive whole providing services to the client,” Anthony says.
