July 27, 2017

The Immigration Minister, Brandon Lewis, has stated that a new immigration system will be put into place by the time the free movement of people between EU and the UK ends in 2019.  The Government has today commissioned a detailed assessment of migration from the EU and the European Economic Area in relation to the economy in the UK which is expected in September 2018.  Writing in the Financial Times, the Home Secretary, Amber Rudd, has sought to reassure companies that there will be no “cliff edge” on immigration stating that she shared the desire of business “to continue to welcome those who help make the UK such a prosperous place to live” and confirming that the UK would continue to attract “the brightest and the best” migrants from around the world.
