The House of Lords is due to vote on Tuesday to amend legislation that will give Theresa May the authority to start the Article 50 exit process, arguing that Parliament should have a “meaningful vote” on the Brexit deal she secures with the EU member states.
Downing Street has today warned peers that any attempt to give Parliament a final say will ‘incentivise’ the EU to give Britain a bad Brexit deal.
A spokesman for Mrs May has said that EU countries might deliberately offer the UK a bad deal “in the hope it stops us leaving”.
