According to European Parliament party officials, Britain has “no idea what Brexit really means”. This remark was in response to a perception that the UK aims to negotiate remaining in the “single market” without accepting the free movement of people. According to a Sky News report, EU Negotiator, Guy Verhofstadt stated that the UK could not expect to get the benefits of EU membership and still impose curbs on immigration. Furthermore, German MEP Manfred Weber expressed his frustration over the general lack of clear proposals by the UK Government. The UK’s Brexit Secretary, David Davis, confirmed the aim “is to achieve an outcome which will be in the interests of both the European Union and the UK” and that the UK government still expected to trigger Article 50 before the end of March, subject to the pending Supreme Court ruling in relation to whether UK MP’s will have a say on triggering Article 50.
