The Prime Minister, Theresa May, has had recorded conversations with Goldman Sachs leaked. In these conversations she expresses her concerns about the UK leaving the EU, in particular her fear that companies would leave the UK and the effect Brexit would have on the British economy as well as the UK’s security without the European arrest warrant and the information-sharing between the police and intelligence agencies. She remarked that there were clear economic benefits if we voted to remain in the EU. This somewhat contrasts her public speeches before the vote in June.
“If we were not in Europe, I think there would be firms and companies who would be looking to say, do they need to develop a mainland Europe presence rather than a UK presence? So I think there are definite benefits for us in economic terms.”
