Dallas Partner Brad Weber, Co-Chair of Locke Lord’s Antitrust Practice Group and Artificial Intelligence Industry Group, was quoted by Bloomberg Law on the Federal Trade Commission’s (FTC) examination of consolidation and dominance of cloud computing companies amid a major IT failure that caused widespread outages. The FTC and the Department of Justice are investigating consolidation and concentration in the AI space, particularly whether cloud markets are functioning “less than fully competitively” and looking at how much reliance AI startups have on cloud providers, Weber notes.
“A high-profile event, like a shutdown of a major cloud provider, could be used as further ammunition for targeting that space,” adds Weber.
