(CHICAGO) September 10, 2020 – Locke Lord Partners Miki Goodin, Jennifer Kenedy and Ashlee Knuckey have been selected by Crain’s Chicago Business as 2020 Notable Women in Law honorees. They are recognized for their ability to effect change, serve as a role model and mentor to other women attorneys and promote inclusive practices in the workplace.
Goodin is a member of Locke Lord’s Executive Committee and IP Pharmaceutical & Biotechnology Practice Group and Chair of the Litigation Support Committee. She is an active mentor both within the Firm and to diverse first-year law students in Chicago through the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity and other bar associations. Goodin is on the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of Ascend Justice, which empowers those impacted by gender-based violence or the child welfare system through legal advocacy and systemic reform. She also lectures through Lawyers in the Classroom of the Constitutional Rights Foundation Chicago and volunteers with her family through the Honeycomb Project, which engages, mobilizes and inspires families to build stronger communities by working with various Chicago organizations, including those serving the homeless, families with pediatric patients and veterans.
Goodin focuses her practice on complex intellectual property matters, particularly litigation involving the Hatch-Waxman provisions of the Patent Act and the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act. She has led a number of Paragraph IV Hatch-Waxman patent infringement litigations involving lower-cost generic pharmaceutical products that, when approved by the FDA, could be prescribed to treat depression, diabetes, fungal infections, HIV and cardiovascular disease, among others. She also counsels pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies on patent landscape, freedom to operate, FDA regulatory, patent licensing, commercialization and antitrust issues.
Kenedy is a Vice Chair of Locke Lord’s Executive Committee. Previously, she was the first female Managing Partner of the Firm’s Chicago office and co-founded and led the Firm’s Women’s Initiative. Kenedy serves as the Firm’s Deputy General Counsel and Chairs Locke Lord’s Business Transformation Task Force, which is working to ensure the Firm leads the industry in transforming the way it provides legal services in a post-COVID-19 world. She also Chairs the Firm’s Flexible Work Arrangement Committee.
Kenedy co-founded and serves as an Advisory Board Member of The Coalition of Women's Initiatives in Law, a nonprofit membership association bringing together organizations dedicated to advancing women lawyers. Kenedy also co-founded Women Office Managing Partners and serves as an Executive Board Member of Chicago Bear Allen Robinson’s Within Reach Foundation, which provides educational opportunities and resources to underserved Chicago students. She has been active in many additional community and professional organizations, including The Fairway Network, the Women’s Bar Association of Illinois and The Executives’ Club of Chicago. In addition to her leadership roles in the Firm and community, Kenedy has a full-time national trial practice focusing on commercial litigation, including trade secret misappropriation and other intellectual property litigation, employment and contractual disputes, construction, product liability, transportation, real estate and eminent domain. She mediates, arbitrates and tries cases nationwide.
Knuckey is a member of Locke Lord’s Board of Directors, Chair of the Firm’s Food, Beverage and Cosmetics Group and a member of the Attorney Development and Practice Development/Marketing Committees. She is a committed mentor to Associates within the Firm in navigating the path to Partnership and in regulatory and litigation matters. Knuckey participates in several important business, bar and community organizations, including The Coalition of Women’s Initiatives in Law, the American and Chicago Bar Associations and The Executives’ Club of Chicago, serving on its Food and Beverage and Operations Committees. She was also a long-standing member of the Women’s Auxiliary Board for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland.
As a Partner in the Firm’s Business Litigation and Dispute Resolution Practice Group, Knuckey maintains a cross-functional practice handling litigation and regulatory matters, primarily in the health care, insurance and food industries. She handles matters with federal and state regulators and government-sponsored programs, including Medicaid and Medicare. She has led or been a key contributor to the teams acting as national insurance and health care regulatory counsel in several recent major health insurance transactions, helping Locke Lord’s clients obtain required regulatory approvals from state and federal regulators.
