    Chicago Partner Ryan Holz Quoted on Hospitality Industry's Reluctance to Allow Cannabis Use in Establishments Due to Federal Prohibition on Marijuana

    Ryan Holz, a Partner in Locke Lord’s Chicago office and member of the Firm’s Cannabis Industry Group, was quoted in a Law360 article discussing the hospitality industry’s obstacles to allowing cannabis use in hotels and other establishments. Although recreational marijuana use becomes legal in Illinois on Jan. 1, Holz anticipates businesses there may be reluctant to allow it because it remains illegal under federal law.

    "We know that there hasn't been a significant federal crackdown on marijuana to date, but it remains a federally illegal substance," Holz said. “There's still a chance of a government official shutting a business down.”
