January 3, 2019 – Marisa Murillo, a former Regional President of the Hispanic National Bar Association, has joined Locke Lord’s Chicago office as a Partner in the Firm’s Debt Finance Practice Group. Murillo’s experience structuring and advising on a wide range of complex financing transactions will further strengthen the Firm’s growing Debt Finance Practice Group in Chicago and Firmwide.
“Marisa is a highly skilled lawyer with an impressive background in corporate finance, particularly with syndicated, mezzanine and other loans, and vast experience negotiating complicated, nuanced deals and transactions. Working alongside our highly talented debt finance lawyers in the Chicago office, she will play a key role in expanding what is a phenomenal and key practice across the Firm,” said Michael Renetzky, Managing Partner of Locke Lord’s Chicago office and Co-Chair of the Firm’s Corporate and Transactional Department. “Her arrival also represents our continued commitment to hiring diverse and female talent into our Partnership and in many other leadership roles, as we know that is integral to the Firm continuing to thrive and grow.”
Murillo, who joins the Firm from Schiff Hardin LLP where she was a Partner, has substantial experience representing lenders and borrowers in a variety of secured and unsecured financings. She focuses her practice in senior and junior capital financings, asset-based loans, secured acquisition and other leveraged financings, debt restructuring and intercreditor issues. She also represents corporate clients in complex finance transactions, equity investments and other general corporate merger and acquisition matters. Previously, she served as an in-house corporate transactions lawyer at General Motors Company.
An active member of the Chicago community, Murillo serves on the Advisory Board of the Museum of Contemporary Photography. She also serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit and the Sustaining Fellows Program Committee of the Art Institute of Chicago. She devotes time to the Emerge Committee of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Chicago and the Joffrey Ballet of Chicago.
Murillo received a juris doctor degree from the University of Southern California Gould School of Law and a bachelor’s degree from Yale University.
“Locke Lord not only has a nationally recognized Corporate group, but it’s also an entrepreneurial, sophisticated Firm that values collaboration,” Murillo said. “I am thrilled to be bringing my skill set to Locke Lord’s thriving Debt Finance Practice Group and to be joining a team of this caliber.”
