Leading Corporate Finance Lawyer James Channo Assumes Role as Managing Partner of Locke Lord’s London Office

January 8, 2018

January 8, 2018 – Locke Lord’s James Channo, a member of the Firmwide Executive Committee, has been appointed Managing Partner of the Firm’s London office. Channo, who has practised in the London legal market for two decades, is the leader of the Firm’s Corporate Practice Group in London and is Co-Chair of Locke Lord’s International Transactions Practice Group.

Channo takes over day-to-day operations of the London office from Michael Collins, who has been Managing Partner since 2015. Collins, who relocated to London on a temporary basis, will continue his litigation practice from the Firm’s Dallas office, where he has spent his entire career.

“James is well known and respected in the London legal market. He has been with Locke Lord for a number of years and understands the Firm’s strategic objectives and ambitions, which makes him an ideal choice to continue building our presence and growing our office in London,” said Locke Lord Chair David Taylor. “We are deeply appreciative of Mike’s leadership and enduring commitment to this Firm when he answered the call to temporarily relocate to London to help with collaboration, recruitment and cohesiveness. We are confident James’ entrepreneurial spirit and energy will be integral to building upon the great momentum that Mike has established in our London office.”

Channo and Collins have been involved in a number of key lateral hires in the Firm’s London office during the past year, including the additions of three Partners in the span of less than one month. Sean Donovan-Smith, an experienced funds formation and regulatory advisory lawyer, joined as a Partner in the Investment Adviser & Alternative Funds Practice Group, and Ben Henry, a well-known data centre lawyer, joined as a Partner in the Real Estate and Finance Practice Group. Earlier in the year, the Firm added seasoned corporate lawyer Sean Page as a Partner.

Also in 2017, Chambers and Partners named six Locke Lord London lawyers as leading practitioners in their respective practice areas, including Channo in Corporate/M&A: Mid-Market, and recognised two UK practice areas. In addition, Locke Lord’s UK Asset Finance & Leasing division, led by London Partner Joanne Davis, was named the Top Asset Finance Team of the Year by Leasing World at its 2017 Leasing World Awards. Davis was also recognised by Leasing Life and Motor Finance as one of the most influential people in the European motor and leasing industry on its Power 50 list.

Channo advises clients on a variety of corporate matters, including AIM and Main Market listings, cross-border mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and other transactional work. He has advised a number of energy, financial services and technology clients in connection with their IPOs and provides counsel to companies listed on the Official List and AIM, private companies, sponsors, nominated advisers, brokers and other financial intermediaries and public and private fund investors. He has wide-ranging M&A experience in financial services, fintech, hotels and energy.
