Locke Lord Dallas Partner Kimberly Williams commented on corporate nondiscrimination policies in The Dallas Morning News in an article that highlights a number of companies that are taking steps to protect LGBTQ workers.
Williams said “that the increase since 2002 of companies that protect gender identity was more marked” and “that likely stems from the facts that more people are openly identifying as transgender and that more people know transgender friends, colleagues or family members.” Williams also noted: “You don't want to say, 'In California we won't discriminate against LGBT people, but in Texas we will.' That's not good [for] morale. ... As an employer, you want to look for the best person for the job, with the best skills and abilities."
