    Of Counsel Tom Smedinghoff Comments on Libraries and the Right to Be Forgotten in Bloomberg BNA’s Privacy and Security Law Report

    Chicago’s Tom Smedinghoff, Of Counsel who focuses his practice on the new legal issues relating to the developing field of information law and electronic business activities, was quoted throughout a Bloomberg BNA Privacy and Security Law Report on global right to be forgotten (RTBF) principles and how they could affect traditional library services. Smedinghoff said the RTBF ‘‘raises questions about the traditional role of libraries.” He also noted that the odds of the RTBF being adopted in the United States are close to zero, “but that may change if the right is interpreted, as I think it will be, under the General Data Protection Regulation to be much broader and give individuals the right to request that any data controller erase information.”
