Locke Lord Partner Paulette Brown’s Commitment to Public Service Earns Top Honor From National Bar Association

JULY 24, 2015 – Locke Lord Partner Paulette Brown, a lawyer who has been committed to public service and the advancement of diverse lawyers for more than 35 years, received the National Bar Association’s (NBA) highest honor, The C. Francis Stradford Award, during the organization’s 90th Annual Convention & Exhibits Awards Banquet Thursday night in Los Angeles.

Brown, who served as the NBA’s President in 1993-1994, previously received the inaugural Ronald Brown International award, Equal Justice Award and the Gertrude Rush Award from the NBA. She is also President-Elect of the American Bar Association (ABA) and will be sworn in as President early next month.

Brown is a Partner in the Firm’s Morristown office, a member of the Labor & Employment Practice Group and Co-Chair of Locke Lord’s Diversity Committee. She has held many positions throughout her career, including as in-house counsel to a number of Fortune 500 companies and as a municipal court judge. In private practice, she has focused on all facets of labor and employment and commercial litigation and is nationally known for her efforts to help eliminate bias in the legal system.

A member of the American Law Institute, Brown has been widely honored for excellence in the legal profession. She was named one of "The 50 Most Influential Minority Lawyers in America" by the National Law Journal and has been repeatedly selected by U.S. News as one of the “Best Lawyers in America” in the area of Commercial Litigation. Brown was named to the EBONY Power 100 List in 2014 and one of the country’s “Most Influential Black Lawyers” by Savoy Magazine.

Brown earned her J.D. at Seton Hall University School of Law and her B.A. at Howard University.

The National Bar Association was founded in 1925 and represents a professional network of more than 65,000 African-American lawyers, judges, educators and law students. The C. Francis Stradford award is named for Cornelius Francis Stradford, a founder of the NBA.
