Locke Lord Partner Brian Casey Appointed to Georgia State University’s Risk Management Foundation’s Board of Trustees

    July 1, 2014 Locke Lord Atlanta Partner Brian Casey was recently appointed to another three-year term to the Board of Trustees of Risk Management and Insurance  Foundation, Inc. – the fundraising arm of the Department of Risk Management and Insurance (RMI) at Georgia State University’s J. Mack Robinson College of Business.

    The public foundation raises funds, helps retain top faculty and awards scholarships for the RMI department, which is ranked fourth in the nation among risk management programs inU.S. News and World Report’s 2013 “America’s Best Colleges.”

    Casey, co-leader of Locke Lord's Insurance: Regulatory & Transactional Practice Group, and a member of the Firm's Corporate and Health Care Practice Groups, was an adjunct professor of insurance law at RMI in the mid-1990s and has served on the Board of Trustees since 2011.

    Casey concentrates his practice on mergers & acquisitions, corporate and structured finance, and other transactional and regulatory matters, and also focuses on insurance-linked securities and related insurance capital markets transactions. His clients include insurance companies, insurance holding companies, managing general agents and insurance agencies, third party and claims administrators, banks and other financial institutions, investment banks, and reinsurance companies.

    He has served on a number of advisory boards for various insurance-related organizations, including previous terms as Co-Chair of the Compliance and Risk Management Best Practices Panel of the American Bankers Insurance Association, the Life Insurance Settlement Association Board, and the Editorial Board of Insurance Law360. He frequently writes and speaks on insurance regulatory matters and trends, such as health care reform, data security, the Telephone Consumer Protection Act and the impact of social media.

    Casey earned his law degree from The Ohio State University College of Law and his Master of Laws in Taxation from Emory University Law School. He earned his undergraduate degree in accounting from Auburn University, graduating summa cum laude.
