    Locke Lord Names Michael Powell Head of Energy Litigation Practice Group; Also Names Deputy Chair and Announces New Leadership for Houston Litigation

    June 19, 2014 - Locke Lord has named Dallas Partner and accomplished trial lawyer Michael V. Powell Chair of the Firm’s Energy Litigation Practice Group. Houston Partner Derrick Carson will serve as Deputy Chair. The Firm also named Houston Partner David E. Harrell Jr. Co-Chair of Houston Litigation.

    Powell has nearly four decades of experience as a trial and appellate lawyer, having briefed and presented oral arguments in several United States Courts of Appeals, the Texas Supreme Court and the Texas Courts of Appeals. He has extensive experience before federal and Texas state trial courts, as well as arbitration tribunals.

    Powell is a Fellow in the prestigious American College of Trial Lawyers and is Board Certified in Civil Appellate Law by Texas Board of Legal Specialization. He is a graduate of the University of Texas School of Law.

    Houston Partner Derrick Carson will serve as Deputy Chair of the Energy Litigation Practice Group.

    Carson has more than 15 years of experience representing clients primarily in the energy, petrochemical and construction industries. He serves on the Executive Committee of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and is a Board Member of the Institute for Transnational Arbitration.

    In the Firm’s Houston office, Partner  David E. Harrell Jr. has assumed the roles of Co-Chair of Houston Litigation.

    Benoit focuses his practice on securities litigation, complex commercial litigation and internal and governmental investigations. He is a member of the Firm’s Board of Directors and was elected to the Board of Directors of the State Bar of Texas in 2013. He previously served as President of the Houston Bar Association.

    Harrell also chairs the Firm's Business Litigation and Dispute Resolution Practice Group, as well as the ‎Firm’s International Arbitration Practice Group. He has extensive trial and arbitration experience in ‎energy disputes, commercial litigation, and fiduciary disputes.‎
