On February 19, approximately 20 attorneys and staff members from Edwards Wildman volunteered at the Greater Boston Food Bank (GBFB). A total of 60 volunteers sorted and boxed almost 10,000 pounds of food that night. Based on these numbers, the GBFB estimated that the Edwards Wildman team sorted and boxed enough food for more than 2,000 meals for people in need. In addition to volunteering that evening, Edwards Wildman's Boston office raised more than $600 in its elective "Jeans Day," in which employees donate five dollars in order to wear denim to work.
"We are proud to support the Greater Boston Food Bank's mission to distribute food to those in need," said Matt McTygue, partner-in-charge of Edwards Wildman's Boston office. "The GBFB provides an important service to our community by supplying local food pantries, community meal programs, homeless and residential shelters, youth programs, senior centers, and day-care centers throughout eastern Massachusetts."
The GBFB is the largest hunger-relief organization in New England and among the largest food banks in the country. GBFB acquires food through food industry product donations, food drives and financial contributions that enable the organization to purchase additional high nutrient quality food. Last year, the GBFB distributed 48 million pounds of food, enough to provide healthy meals to as many as 545,000 people.
