Edwards Wildman Sponsors the Florida Venture Forum’s 2013 Early Stage Conference

Edwards Wildman Palmer LLP is pleased to announce that it sponsored the Florida Venture’s Forum 2013 Early Stage Conference and Statewide Collegiate Business Plan Competition. Eighteen of Florida’s best early-stage prospects for equity financing delivered presentations to an audience of venture capitalists, private equity investors, angel investors, investment bankers, financial intermediaries, and entrepreneurs. Edwards Wildman has presented its two $5,000 HIT Awards to AZZLY, the winner of the Early Stage competition, and Dynamic Reach, manufacturer of Aqua Ramp, the winner of the Statewide Collegiate Business Plan Competition.

“We congratulate AZZLY, and its innovative holistic approach which is transforming how healthcare providers achieve their electronic health records, practice management and patient health records requirements,” said John Igoe, a venture capital partner in Edwards Wildman’s Florida offices. “We also offer our sincere congratulations to Dynamic Reach from Florida Gulf Coast University, which was selected by a panel of judges out of winning teams from eight universities. The presenters in both competitions are developing awe-inspiring breakthroughs in healthcare IT, medical devices, software technologies, and other industries, and we are proud to sponsor this event.”

The Florida Venture Forum outlined several key criteria in selecting finalists: companies must be entering or in their commercialization phase; must have fully committed leadership whose primary focus is upon the development and growth of the business venture; must have completed the business planning process; and must be ready for outside equity capital investment.

The attorneys in Edwards Wildman’s Florida offices have extensive experience working with start-up companies and entrepreneurs as they form and grow their businesses, particularly for biotech, life science, technology, and healthcare companies spun out from Florida’s premier research institutions. This focus is enhanced by Edwards Wildman’s Helping Innovators Thrive (HIT) program, which provides affordable access to strategic legal advice for qualifying entrepreneurs and young companies.

A fixture in Florida’s legal community since 1981, Edwards Wildman established a presence in Gainesville in 2008, and has had office space there continuously since then, staffed by attorneys from other offices on a rotating basis. The firm has a long-standing relationship with the University of Florida’s entrepreneurial community and has an office in the UF’s Innovation Hub. Signifying its commitment to South Florida, Edwards Wildman opened an office in Miami on May 1 in addition to its office in West Palm Beach.

The Florida Venture Forum is Florida’s oldest, largest and most prestigious statewide support group for venture capitalists and entrepreneurs, helping emerging growth companies come together with sources of capital from across the country. Throughout the year, the Florida Venture Forum provides monthly programs on a statewide basis.
