November 9, 2012 – Locke Lord Attorney Ann Ryan Robertson has been elected Trustee for the international Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb), a UK-registered charity founded in 1915 that offers education and training in dispute resolution through an international network of more than 35 branches on six continents. Trustees set policy for the 12,500-member organization that works with arbitrators, mediators and adjudicators worldwide. Robertson has served in leadership positions previously with the North American Branch of CIArb, most recently serving on its Executive Committee. She is one of six new trustees for a term that begins in January 2013, and she is the first woman selected from the Americas region of the organization.
Robertson is based in Locke Lord’s Houston office and is part of the Firm’s International Arbitration and Business Litigation & Dispute Resolution practice groups. She has more than 30 years of experience in a wide range of complex commercial disputes, both domestic and international. In addition, she has more than a decade of experience in international arbitration and is a member of the U.S. delegation to the NAFTA Advisory Committee on Private Commercial Disputes.
“Locke Lord welcomes the opportunity to support Ann and the hard work that she has put in on behalf of the Chartered Institute,” said David Harrell, head of the Firm’s International Arbitration group. “She is a tremendous ambassador for the Firm, the Institute and the development of international arbitration, and her new global role is yet another affirmation of her efforts.”
Last month, Robertson was elected to the exclusive American Law Institute (ALI), a diverse group of lawyers, judges and law professors considered leaders in their practice areas. ALI members help draft, discuss, revise and publish restatements of the law, model statutes and principles of law as part of the Institute’s mission to clarify, modernize and improve the law. For many years, Robertson has led the University of Houston Law Center international arbitration team, which this year earned a top spot in the international Willem C Vis (East) Moot held in Hong Kong. In 2008, Texas Lawyer named Robertson one of 30 “Extraordinary Women in Texas Law” for her work with the UH arbitration team.
Locke Lord LLP consistently ranks among American Lawyer’s top 100 U.S. law firms. The Firm’s full range of practice and industry areas serve national and international clients from offices in Atlanta, Austin, Chicago, Dallas, Hong Kong, Houston, London, Los Angeles, New Orleans, New York, Sacramento, San Francisco and Washington, D.C.
