(HOUSTON) June 30, 2011 – Locke Lord Bissell & Liddell Houston Partner David E. Harrell Jr. has been elected Chair of the Business Law Section of the State Bar of Texas for the 2011-2012 year. Harrell chairs the Firm’s International Arbitration Practice Group and co-chairs the Firm’s Business Litigation/Arbitration Practice Group. His extensive arbitration and litigation experience includes energy litigation, construction and commercial litigation.
In the energy arena, Harrell represents operators, producers, transporters, marketers and royalty owners in contract and royalty disputes, throughput and processing claims and permitting claims. His commercial litigation experience includes representing plaintiffs and defendants in contract disputes, fiduciary relations issues, usury claims, real estate litigation and Lanham Act cases. In the construction arena, he has represented owners, contractors, designers and subcontractors for a variety of projects.
Harrell earned his law degree from Southern Methodist University School of Law, where he was a member of the Order of the Coif and Phi Delta Phi and also served as research editor for its law review. He is a member of the American Bar Association’s Litigation and International sections and also a member of the State Bar of Texas Litigation, International Law and Oil, Gas and Energy Law sections. He is outgoing vice-chair of the Business Law Section and is a past chair of that section’s Litigation Committee. Harrell frequently writes and speaks on matters of litigation and arbitration.
The almost 4,000-member State Bar of Texas Business Law Section covers corporate, securities, commercial, banking and bankruptcy law, and its committees focus on laws and issues that affect Texas businesses.
