Locke Lord Corporate Insurance Co-Chair Brian Casey Named to Georgia State Risk Management Foundation

    (ATLANTA) June 29, 2011 – Locke Lord Bissell & Liddell Atlanta Partner Brian T. Casey has been named to the Georgia State University Risk Management Foundation Board of Trustees for a three-year term starting July 1. The 52-year-old public foundation raises funds, helps retain top faculty and awards scholarships for one of the country’s leading academic risk management programs, the RMI (Risk Management and Insurance) Department at Georgia State. Casey was an adjunct professor of insurance law at RMI, which is ranked third in the nation among risk management programs in U.S. News and World Report’s 2011 “America’s Best Colleges.” The newly renamed Risk Management Foundation was formerly known as the Education Foundation Inc.

    Casey serves on several national advisory boards and other insurance-related organizations and for six consecutive years has been named to a national list of the 100 Most Powerful People in the Insurance Industry in North America by Insurance Broadcasting, which includes him as the only attorney in the Insurance Law category. Earlier this year, Casey was named to the 2011 Editorial Advisory board for the well-respected Insurance Law360 daily publication, a role in which he helps provide guidance to news editors who coordinate coverage of the varied legal and regulatory matters affecting the national insurance industry.

    Casey frequently writes and speaks on regulatory matters and trends that affect the insurance industry, such as currently the embracing of social media by insurance companies and agents. He focuses his practice on mergers and acquisitions, corporate and structured finance and other transactional matters and multi-state regulatory matters for clients in the insurance, financial services and health care industries. His clients include insurance companies, insurance holding companies, managing general agents and insurance agencies, third party and claims administrators, banks and other financial institutions, investment banks and reinsurance companies. Casey earned his law degree from The Ohio State University College of Law and his Master of Laws in Taxation from Emory University Law School. He earned his undergraduate degree in accounting from Auburn University, graduating summa cum laude.
