May 16, 2011 – Locke Lord Bissell & Liddell Chair Jerry K. Clements, a 1981 cum laude graduate of Baylor Law School, has been elected to a three-year term on the Baylor University Board of Regents, effective June 1. Clements has strong and continuing ties to Baylor going back to her law school years in the late 1970s and early 1980s. She is a Board Member and President of the Baylor Law Alumni Association and delivered the keynote address to its graduating law school class last fall.

“Jerry Clements is a voice for Baylor in Texas and around the country, and we are honored to welcome her as a Regent,” said incoming Board of Regents Chair Neal T. “Buddy” Jones. “Since serving as Editor in Chief of the Baylor Law Review, Jerry went on to distinguish herself as an exceptional and accomplished trial lawyer, and is known as a visionary and compassionate leader. She embraces education and throughout her career has mentored, underwritten and supported students and young lawyers. Jerry is a loyal and dedicated member of the Baylor family who will give us outstanding guidance and advice.”

Clements is one of only a few women to head a top U.S. law firm and since 2007 has served as Chair of Locke Lord, which is ranked No. 68 in the AmLaw 100. She is the former chair of the Firm’s nationwide Litigation Department. She has been named as one of the Top 50 Most Influential Women Lawyers by the National Law Journal; one of 30 Extraordinary Women in Texas Law by Texas Lawyer; one of the Top 10 Litigators in the Dallas-Fort Worth area by the Dallas Business Journal; and one of the Top 50 Female Litigators in the State by Texas Monthly magazine. She is a champion of women and diversity, and has been named one of Texas’ Most Powerful Women by the Texas Diversity Counsel.

“Baylor is one of my passions, and I am thrilled to be able to play a leadership role as a Regent for this powerful institution,” Clements said. “Baylor has helped shape my life and my career, and I am grateful for this opportunity to give back and look forward to playing an active and informed role in guiding Baylor into the future.”

Clements is a Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers and serves on the Board of Trustees of the Foundation of the American College of Trial Lawyers which is dedicated to the improvement in the quality of trial and appellate advocacy, the ethics of the legal profession and the administration of justice. She has been commissioned a Yellow Rose of Texas by Gov.
