(CHICAGO) July 26, 2010 – Locke Lord Bissell & Liddell today announced Partner Jennifer Kenedy as the new Managing Partner of the Firm’s Chicago office. Kenedy began her legal career at Locke Lord’s predecessor firm, Lord Bissell & Brook, almost 20 years ago, and becomes the first female to head the Chicago office. She also serves as Co-Chair of the Firm’s Board of Directors and of the Women’s Initiative Committee, the latter which she helped create.

Kenedy steps into the position previously held by Partner Larry Gray, who died unexpectedly on July 19. Gray also spent his entire career at this Firm; played a major role in the Firm and its history; and served as a mentor to many.

“This is a sad time for all of us at Locke Lord as we lost a valued friend and Partner who was an integral part of our Firm,” said Jerry Clements, Chair of Locke Lord. “No one will be able to replace Larry, but I know Jennifer, who was very close to him, will work tirelessly to carry on his business initiatives and emulate his compassionate style.

“Jennifer has shown tremendous leadership skills in many areas at Locke Lord, has a strategic and inclusive style, and is an accomplished and well-respected lawyer. She has a creative and entrepreneurial spirit that perfectly blends the worlds of business and law, and will help guide the Chicago office.”

Chicago Lawyer in 2009 featured Kenedy among a half dozen up-and-coming law firm leaders, part of an elite group of young attorneys poised to shape their firms’ futures for the next generation. Kenedy, who clerked at Locke Lord for two summers and began as a full-time Associate in 1993, actively serves on six Locke Lord committees and helps make decisions on numerous issues affecting the Firm, ranging from marketing and technology to flexible work hours and vision/mission statements.

“I lost a very good friend last week when Larry Gray passed away and I am deeply saddened by that loss,” Kenedy said. “Larry is the person who tapped me for my first leadership role in the Firm and I worked with him on many initiatives. This is an awful situation for me, but I will always remember Larry’s legacy and I will work to continue the sound practices he put in place. Our Chicago office is among the largest offices at Locke Lord, and I am committed to looking for opportunities that will help us grow and better serve our clients.”

Kenedy’s practice focuses on commercial litigation, including trade secret misappropriation and other intellectual property litigation, employment and distributorship contractual disputes, product liability, construction, ERISA, real estate and eminent domain. She is a cum laude graduate of Northwestern University School of Law, and summa cum laude graduate of University of Illinois. She mediates, arbitrates and tries cases nationwide and her experience as national counsel covers all aspects of litigation, from supervising complex discovery and attending mediations and arbitrations to pursuing injunctive relief, trying cases and briefing and arguing state and federal court appeals.
