Nine Locke Lord Practice Areas Nationally Ranked in ‘Best Law Firms’ List; Firm Earns 53 ‘Best’ Spots Overall

September 15, 2010 – Locke Lord Bissell & Liddell’s Insurance Law and Intellectual Property Law practices are among the best in the nation, according to national and metropolitan rankings from U.S. News – Best Lawyers “Best Law Firms” lists released today.
The Firm received nine national rankings, with Insurance and Intellectual Property on the Tier 1 national list; Admiralty & Maritime Law, Oil & Gas Law and Tax Law in Tier 2; and Banking and Finance Law, Bankruptcy and Creditor Debtor Rights/Insolvency and Reorganization Law, Corporate Law and General Commercial Litigation listed among the top Tier 3 nationally.
In addition, Locke Lord practice areas were recognized in 44 metropolitan rankings around the country in this inaugural list, made public today by U.S. News Media Group and Best Lawyers. Nine practice areas in the Houston office are rated Tier 1 in metropolitan listings and include: Admiralty & Maritime Law, Banking and Finance Law, Employment Law – Individuals, Environmental Law, Intellectual Property Law, Non-Profit/Charities Law and Personal Injury Litigation (both Defendants and Plaintiffs). In Dallas, four practice areas received Tier 1 ranking: Alternative Dispute Resolution, Employee Benefits (ERISA) Law, General Commercial Litigation and Tax Law. In Austin, Locke Lord’s Energy Law and Real Estate Law practices received top Tier 1 ranking. Insurance Law was ranked Tier 1 in the Firm’s Chicago and Washington, D.C., offices. In New York, the Intellectual Property Law practice area is Tier 1. And in New Orleans, the Bankruptcy and Creditor Debtor Rights/Insolvency and Reorganization Law practice made the Tier 1 metropolitan list.
The lists are compiled from information obtained in national surveys of clients and lawyers and include data used in the 3 million-plus evaluations submitted as part of the annual “Best Lawyers” survey. In addition, rankings were obtained by analyzing data about numbers of lawyers and their previous experience; numbers of clients within different billing ranges, numbers of transactions and litigation matters at different dollar levels, pro bono commitment and diversity. First-Tier rankings will be printed in the October issue of U.S. News & World Report.
