(NEW YORK) August 13, 2012 —
Antitrust Litigation Partner Paul Kaplan has joined Locke Lord’s New York office as part of the Firm’s Litigation Department and Antitrust Practice Group. He brings more than 25 years of experience in handling litigation and counseling for major corporations as well as for domestic and international financial institutions. His significant background and experience in antitrust matters across numerous industries will strengthen the national platform of the Firm’s Antitrust Practice.
Kaplan’s practice focuses on federal and state litigation and regulatory matters, and he regularly provides counsel on antitrust issues involved in mergers and acquisitions and on general antitrust matters. He also has years of experience advising clients in business transactions on the ramifications of antitrust issues and strategies to minimize antitrust claims. He represents financial institutions and other clients facing court or regulatory enforcement actions. Previously he was a partner in the New York office of Alston & Bird.
Kaplan is the second Partner to join the Firm’s New York office this month, following Keith Krasney, who now chairs Locke Lord’s Securitization and Structured Finance team.
“Paul brings an additional level of experience to our national antitrust platform, and his thorough knowledge of regulatory and litigation issues will help us better serve our clients in this arena,” said Firm Chair Jerry Clements. She added that Kaplan’s location in New York boosts the Firm’s East Coast Antitrust capabilities as well as adding capacity to the practice Firm-wide.
Kaplan earned his law degrees from The London School of Economics, University of London (LL.M.) and from Northeastern University School of Law (JD). He obtained his AB degree Cum Laude With Distinction from Boston University College of Arts & Sciences. He was a Law Clerk to Judge R. Ammi Cutter, who sat on the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court and Appeals Court in Boston. He served as in-house counsel at CitiBank and JPMorgan Chase. Kaplan is an adjunct professor at Fordham Law School, where he has taught an advanced antitrust course for more than 20 years. He also serves on the Board as well as in several leadership positions with the America-Israel Friendship League, a not-for-profit 501(C)(3), dedicated to promoting the relationship between America and Israel, and he is a Member of the Dean’s Advisory Board, Boston University College of Arts & Sciences.
