(DALLAS) March 23, 2012 — Locke Lord Dallas Partner Michael V. Powell has become a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, one of the premier legal associations in America. He is one of six Locke Lord attorneys selected to this prestigious 62-year-old organization, which is composed of the best of the trial bar from the United States and Canada.
Membership is by invitation only and cannot exceed 1 percent of the total lawyer population of any state or province. Powell was inducted at the 2012 Spring Meeting of the College in Scottsdale, Arizona, and joins Locke Lord Firm Chair Jerry K. Clements, Dallas Partner George E. Bowles, Houston Partner James Leahy and retired Partner Stanley McMurry as Fellows.
Powell has more than three decades of experience as a trial and appellate lawyer and works on a wide variety of matters, including defense of alleged accounting malpractice, oil and gas and other energy industry matters, as well as constitutional, statutory and other public law questions. He has experience in products liability and other personal injury matters, aviation, indemnity and insurance issues, land boundary disputes and other types of complex general contract and tort litigation. Powell is a graduate of the University of Texas School of Law.
Fellowship in the American College of Trial Lawyers is extended to those who have mastered the art of advocacy and whose professional careers have been marked by “the highest standards of ethical conduct, professionalism, civility and collegiality.” Lawyers must have a minimum of 15 years trial experience before they can be considered for Fellowship. The College currently lists just 5,700 lawyers as Fellows throughout the United States and Canada.
