World Trademark Review 1000 Names Locke Lord's Texas Offices, Houston Attorneys Thomas L. Casagrande and Paul Van Slyke as Leaders Among Trademark Practices

(HOUSTON) May 16, 2011 – Locke Lord Bissell & Liddell’s Houston and Dallas offices, as well as Houston attorneys Paul Van Slyke and Thomas L. Casagrande, are recognized in the inaugural edition of World Trademark Review 1000 as leading national trademark practices and practitioners. The rankings, based on qualitative research and interviews with national and international trademark specialists, are based on “depth of expertise, market presence and the level of work they are typically instructed on.”
The publication cites Locke Lord’s Dallas and Houston offices as playing a pivotal role in the Firm’s national Trademark practice. Chaired by Dallas Partner Michael R. Schulman, the national Trademark, Copyright and Advertising Practice Group recently was restructured to include the Trademark, Copyright and Branding Section, headed by Van Slyke, and the Advertising and Marketing Section, headed by New York Partner Gregory T. Casamento. World Trademark Review 1000 cites this restructuring as a demonstration of Locke Lord’s commitment to trademark law, and says the group “is particularly rated for its contentious expertise and competes with the best for instructions in the market’s most significant disputes.” The Trademark, Copyright and Branding Section regularly counsels on behalf of Fortune 100 companies.
Calling Casagrande “a highly rated IP (Intellectual Property) enforcement expert,” the publication says his 2009 addition to Locke Lord boosted its trademark team. In addition, the publication calls Van Slyke an experienced trial lawyer with a focus on anti-counterfeiting work and Internet-related trademark issues. He has been with Locke Lord for more than 15 years, and is listed among the world’s preeminent lawyers in trademark law by Who’s Who Legal: Texas 2007 and the International Bar Association.
